The Little Mountain School offers a holistic educational program designed to support the full development of each child. Our curriculum blends strong academic instruction with experiential learning, creativity, and social-emotional growth. Students learn in both Spanish and English, engage in hands-on activities, explore arts and movement, and participate in age-appropriate physical education.
What makes our program unique is its integrative approach: children receive academic support, emotional encouragement, and opportunities to build confidence and character. Our teachers focus on developing critical thinking, communication skills, personal responsibility, and respect for themselves and their community. Every program at the school is shaped by our core values — love, respect, acceptance, collaboration, equality, solidarity, integrity, and gratitude
Our classrooms are safe, vibrant spaces where children feel welcomed, supported, and encouraged to explore. Each room is designed with the child in mind: bright, clean, organized, and filled with materials that inspire curiosity and learning.
The school continues to expand its facilities each year, adding classrooms as students advance in grade level. Each classroom is staffed by trained Guatemalan educators who bring professionalism, warmth, and cultural understanding to their teaching. Class sizes are kept small to create an environment where every child receives attention, builds relationships, and feels seen.
Our classrooms are not just rooms, they are places where confidence is nurtured, skills are developed, and possibilities begin to open
Nutrition is an essential part of our approach to education. Many children in our region face food insecurity at home, and learning is difficult when a child is hungry. That’s why The Little Mountain School provides nourishing meals each day to support both physical health and academic success.
Students receive healthy, balanced meals prepared on site, helping them stay focused, energized, and ready to learn. For some children, these meals are the most reliable source of daily nutrition. Providing consistent food not only strengthens their bodies but also creates a stable, predictable routine that contributes to emotional security.
Nutrition is treated as an integral part of education, not an add-on. When children are well-fed, their minds and hearts can thrive.
The Little Mountain School is deeply rooted in the community it serves. Families, teachers, local leaders, and students contribute to a shared sense of belonging and purpose. The school collaborates closely with parents and caregivers, hosts community events, and maintains open communication so that families feel included in their children’s education.
We view education as a community effort. Local farmers and artisans support the school, and staff members come from the surrounding villages, reinforcing a model of sustainability and mutual respect. Our programs encourage students to value their heritage, understand their community, and see themselves as future leaders who can bring positive change to the region.
Through GEO Tours, visitors from abroad also have the chance to learn from and walk alongside the community, building meaningful connections grounded in respect and cultural humility.
