Growth, Learning, and New Opportunities at The Little Mountain School

At The Little Mountain School, each month brings new opportunities for students to learn, grow, and imagine brighter futures. August was filled with meaningful milestones that reflect the heart of the school: nurturing not only education, but also resilience, curiosity, responsibility, and hope.

Here are a few highlights from the month.

Building a Recycling & Compost Area

A new recycling and compost space is under construction on campus. Organic kitchen waste will be transformed into natural fertilizer for the school gardens, creating a sustainable cycle that students can see and understand firsthand.

This project does more than support the gardens—it teaches children practical lessons about sustainability and caring for creation.

Teacher Training in Emotional Management

Teachers participated in a professional workshop focused on emotional management. This training equips staff with important tools to care for their own well-being while also strengthening their ability to support students in the classroom with patience, awareness, and compassion.

Inspiring Careers: “What Do I Want to Be When I Grow Up?”

Students welcomed a variety of special guests—including a psychologist, police officers, firefighters, a florist, and a chef—who shared about their professions and encouraged the children to dream boldly about their own futures. These real-world connections help students begin to imagine the many possibilities ahead of them.

Xplorax Workshop with Universidad del Valle

Through a new partnership with Universidad del Valle de Guatemala, the school introduced an interactive math application in the computer lab to make learning more dynamic and engaging.

Parents were also invited to participate in workshops to learn how they can support their children in using this tool at home, strengthening the connection between school and family learning.

Each of these milestones reflects the mission of The Little Mountain School: forming children who are not only educated, but confident, curious, and prepared for the future.
