Meet Nomí Jolón: “Cultivating Dreams Day by Day”

For Nomí Jolón, teaching is not simply about helping students memorize facts or complete assignments. It is about helping children discover who they are and who they can become.

“I dreamed of becoming a teacher since I was a little girl,” Nomí shared. “With effort, dedication, and a lot of love for education, I worked tirelessly to achieve that dream.”

Today, Nomí serves as one of the passionate educators at The Little Mountain School in Joya Honda, Guatemala, where she brings nearly ten years of teaching experience into the classroom each day.

Nomí describes herself as a creative, organized leader committed to giving her best, even when the work is difficult.

“I understand and am convinced that my profession is not limited to teaching letters and numbers,” she explained. “It is based on igniting the spark of curiosity, understanding small hearts, and cultivating dreams day by day.”

Her educational background includes training as both a Primary Education Teacher and a Secondary Education Teacher in Pedagogy and Natural Sciences, with a focus on environmental education.

Nomí says she was inspired to join The Little Mountain School after learning more about the school’s educational mission from fellow teachers who encouraged her to become part of the project.

That decision, she says, strengthened her passion and vocation for helping students grow in every area of life.

“My goal is not just to transmit knowledge,” Nomí shared, “but to inspire my students to discover and reach their full potential, always finding inspiration in art.”

Her vision for the school is one where students become lifelong learners who thrive academically, socially, and emotionally — growing into confident and responsible individuals committed to their environment and community.

As The Little Mountain School continues to grow, educators like Nomí are helping shape more than students. They are helping shape futures.

Through the generosity of GEO supporters, teachers like Nomí are able to continue investing in the lives of children in rural Guatemala every single day — cultivating confidence, curiosity, and hope for generations to come.
